Lessons with Pam - Just a Snowman_ Read, Make, Do
All / Holidays and Seasons / Winter
Hi, my name is miss Pam and I'm from building blocks child development center here in Switzerland West Virginia. And I have a book and a project to do a few today. Our book is one of my favorite authors, his name is Mercer Mayer. And our book is called just a snowman. And he's the author and the illustrator. Now the author is the person that writes the book, okay? He's the one that thinks, um. I think I'm gonna write a story about a snowman. I'm a writer's book about snowman. And I would draw some pretty pictures. An illustrator, he's the one that draws the pretty pictures. So, Mercer Mayer does both in this book. He's the author and the illustrator of all the words of all the pictures and our book. All right, well let's get to it and read this book. It's called just a snowman. And there they are. Build much no man. It's no and snow. All night long. So today we had a snow day. Hooray. I wanted to build a snowman. I put all my snow boots and my hair and my mittens and the scarf. Then I helped a little sister put on her snow stuff. I think little sister's got a problem. Her hat sent over her eyes. How should I say? I might be mom will fix it. Or she'll get it up there. After that, dad needed my help. We shovel and shoveled lots of snow. And then we had to find the car. I was worried about snowman next, but little sister wanted to have a snowball fight. I let her hit me a bunch times. I would hit her one time back accident. And she looked at her face. She did not look happy. She's got snow on her face. And I think she's crying. And then look at his face. He doesn't look happy either. Couch worried. Please all face. Maybe he's like, oh man. I didn't mean to hit her in the head. So then I had to say, I was sorry and give her a big hug. And there he is giving her how gay oh yeah, she's all upset. Look at that tears coming out of her eyes. They gave her a hug. Told her he was sorry. I was willing to be able to snowman after that, but Tiger and Ben wanted to go ice skating. So I showed everyone how I can skate backwards. And do jokes. And then Tiger and I raced. And it was a tie. At the top. He fell down and he grew up in his head. I think they may have both had an accident and fell down. I hope they're okay. I was ready to build a snowman next, but Marie said Molly wanted to go sledding. I steered all the way down the big heel. Watch out, Marisa Molly. Here we go. Hey, look at that having fun. They look like they're having fun. He looks like he's having fun, sister. And dog. Cat bird. Not so much. She looks a little worried. He looks a little. I think he's more worried about the rabbit and catching the rabbit. Well, a little sister and I got home, I was going to build a snowman, but gator wanted me to help him build a snow fort. Never that. They built a big snow for that's pretty cool. And then Gabby wanted to make snow angels. Looks like she's having fun now. She was smiling her face. And he's got a smile face. Uh oh, look out. Somebody's hard mom, the dream. Finally, it was time to build a snowman. First we made a big snowball for the bottom. Next we put a smaller one on top. And an even smaller one on top of that one. So they've got one, two, three, snowballs, stepped up for their snowman. Little sister added prunes for his eyes and amount, and a carrot for his nose. And that put mom's scarf around his neck and dad's hat on his head. I even let him wear my sunglasses. Arsenal man sure looked great. Little scissors was good and cold. So he went inside. The snowman looked cold too, so I decided to make him some of my special hot chocolate to warm us all up. First mom, he did some milk while I got out the secret ingredients. I wonder what that secret ingredient is. I put everything into the pot and stir it all up with a big spoon. Then I put marshmallows on top and I poured the hot chocolate into three big mugs on for me. One volatile sister. And one for the snowman. It was the best snow day ever. I sure hope it says again tomorrow. And they all look happy that he's happy and sisters drinking hers and even mister snowman's kind of smile. And I got a hot chocolate. He looks like he's happy. And having a good time. Okay, so we are going to make snowman. But now we're not just gonna make it Easter, right? We're gonna make special snowman. As a special snowman because we make it with our name. So, what I've got together is add some blue paper and that's gonna be the back of our snowman. It's what we're gonna glue our snowman on. Okay? And then I have some things that are circles. I've got a chip container lid, and then I've got this little container and it has a lid. And I got this and I've got some duct tape roll here. And I think I've got some circles. So then we have some white paper. So what I'm gonna do is. I'm gonna take my white paper. Now you have to figure out how many letters are in your neck. I have three letters in my name. P a M so I'm gonna make three circles. So first I need a big circle. So I'm a big circle here. And we'll put it down on the white paper. And I want to trace around it with my pencil. That's one circle. One, and I think I'm gonna use this container for my next circle. I'm gonna trace around it. Two, snowballs. And I need one more. A little one. What am I gonna use? Oh, you know what? This side is smaller than this side. So I think I'm gonna use this side for my last circle. Okay? Let me put it down there. And we're gonna trace around it. So now I have three circles. And I just have three circles because I have three letters in my name. So now I'm going to write my name. Stacker, circles up here. All right. And the first letter of my name is P so I'll go to yellow marker and I'm going to make a P, right there. Then on this, I want to make it a circle or line down the side of it to make that a. And this one on the bottom, I'm going to make my in. One line down and. Now you could have your adult help you with that. Right there. So then you can take your pencil and remember we're going to put our digital and our finger pinch it. All right. Now it's like an alligator. Here it comes alligator, so I'll bite the pencil and ew. Pencils on taste good. So our pencil is pinched with our finger and that's sitting on this finger right here. And then it's leaning back right here on our hand. All right? That gives us good control. That makes it easier for us to write. Okay? Now, I'm gonna turn my letters around just a little bit because of the way the camera is. All right, and though I am sitting. So I'm gonna make first line I'm gonna make is my pee. All right, let me turn around this way. I want to make a straight line down. And then I'm gonna put a bubble at the top. And that's my upper case P, P for Pam. Miss Pao. And here's my a, my full circle. And then for a line, right down beside it, so it's touching. If it is not touching, that doesn't look like an a it looks like a zero and a one. All right, and then here's my last letter. And here's my straight line down. A hump. And a hump. LA, and there's my M. My line is not very long on my line. Just a little bit longer so it makes it easier for you to see it. Straight line down. And the hump and the hump. All right, so now I've got to cut those out. So I've got my scissors. Thumbs go at the top hole. Fingers go on the bottom hole. Now my fingers are big. And your fingers are little. So you might be able to get three fingers in that hole. Me, I'm just going to do two. So thumbs in the top hole, fingers in the bottom hole. Thumbs are on top. Thumbs up. All right. And remember, we're going to put our scissors on our line. And I'm not moving my scissors. You see what happened? I move in the paper. You can put your hand on the table. And you can cut all the way around something. And not pick your hand up. Okay? That makes it easier. Okay? If you don't want to put your hand on the table, then you can hold your hand up. But remember, whatever you decide to do, and on the table, paper another hand, scissors up, thumbs up, open and shut, open and shut, we're moving the paper, not the scissors, okay? Here's my hand up. Okay? And I'm still moving my paper. Okay? If you got your paper like this and you don't have it, cut all the way and just kind of hold it, your scissors have it closed all the way. It's not going to go nowhere. This was a just like that. So that way you can cut and move your hand. Cut. And move your hand. Cut. All right. Now, there's a circle, sometimes as you're cutting, you can just kind of spin the paper around in your hands. Okay, I got one more circle to cut. All right. Now, my line is clear up here. How am I going to get there? How do I get my scissors from here to there? Okay? Well, it really doesn't matter where you start on your circle. Because you're doing all this away. So where does it matter? Okay? You just want to start at the edge and cut up to the line. Okay? Blade of your scissors. Are lined up with your lawn right there. And around we go. Remember, hands they still and we're turning the paper. And then if you have to stop, remember. I'm going to turn it. All right, and there we have it. All the letters of my name cut out. Now my name is short. I'm a very short night. Actually, I have a lot longer name. My name is actually Pamela. But everybody calls me Pam. So I have all my letters. I have my P, I have my a and I have my M and I lay them in the right order. Look at that PAM. That's my name. P 8 M so we're going to make a snowman now. Have a piece of paper. These blue paper right here. And I took a piece of paper and a tore it. Okay? I just tore it. So I'm going to use it as my snow on the bottom of my paper. Just like that. So I'm going to get my glue out. Now remember, we don't do this to your glue. It doesn't need to be up there like that. That's what happens is when you push down real hard, your glue goes everywhere. So we're going to spin it back down until just a little bit. See? Just a little bit pokes out. Okay, that way we know we're not going to waste all of our glue because we might want to do something fun later. We might need more glue. So let's don't waste our glue on all. You know, make a big mess with it. Okay, so I'm going to put my glue on my piece of paper here. Now my glue is purple and then when it dries, it turns clear. So the purple is easy for you to see, too. So I got some glue on the paper. I'm going to glue it to the bottom. Of my blue paper. All right, this is the top, this is the middle. And this is the bottom. I want to put my snow on the bottom of my paper. That way I've got enough room to build my snowman. Okay? So I got my name here. Now, if we start here with the bottom letter, look here. My snowman would be standing on his head. Can't do that. So we're going on our name up. And then we're going to start from the bottom. I remember, you build a snowman, you can't start with the head, you got to build the bottom first. All right, and the bottom has to be the big show ball. So I'm going to start with the bottom, the bottom letter. Like I said, my name is short. You're right. It might be long. You might have 6 or 7 snowballs. I'm going to start on the bottom snowball. I'm going to take my bottom snowball. And I will turn it over and I'm going to put some glue on it. All right. We got to get some glue around the edges. That way it sticks to your paper. And then I'm going to put it right there on my paper. And there's the bottom of my snowman. Okay, so here's the rest of my night. PA. The bottom. Because remember, that's not going to work, is it? That doesn't look professional right now. So our letters together, where we can see our name. And we start with the one on the bottom. All right, so I've got my a, turn it over, put some glue on it. Right on top of my like a snowball. All right, now just cut one step all left. So I'm going to turn it over. And look at that, my glue, my glue, I can't see my glue anymore. So I'm going to turn it just a little bit. So I can see my glue again. Put the blue on the back of my letter. Stick it right there. Now look at that. I build a snowman out of my name. But it looks like he's missing something. What do you think he needs to be a snowman? What about a hat? Got me a piece of black construction paper. And I'm going to film a construction paper in half. Okay? And I want to cut me a hat. One snip. Choose nips. Along the cut. And now, pop those snips because they were just a little teeny, tiny cuts. Okay? So there we go. I have a hat from a snowman. I'm gonna go put some glue on it. I turn it over. Right there. What else is my snowman made? I think you need some eyes. And a mouth. And some buttons that have my hole punch here. Squeeze, squeeze, squeeze. That wanna make a more put my paper together. And then we're gonna punch. Punch. Oh, a little more punch. Punch. It may mean some little pies black purples. Now, here's where you get a little messy. Okay, you gotta get some glue on this little itty bitty thing. So you kind of just gotta put it on there. And slide it over. There's one. Got it on my finger. Slide it on my glue. There's two. Oh, there's one 6 small finger. Oh, there he goes. There's two, 90s a mouse. One more. Two. Okay. Yeah, another one. Three, and we'll go right there above my piece so you can see my letter. Four, there's a mouse, and I got some more. I can make buttons out of them. Okay? One. Two, 7, my fingers. Now if you don't have a blue stick, you can use quite glue. And then you can't put some buttercream tiny dots of glue on your paper. And that way you don't have to get your fingers massive. What else does math know man need? How about some arms? So I've got some tight brown paper. And you want to walk because I can cut one arm and get two arms if I fold it in half. And we got our scissors again, thumb in the top. Oh, sorry. And then the top whole fingers in the bottom hole. One cut. One cut. And cut it over that way a little bit. Back down like that. That looks like a hand. We'll make you some fingers. Like some little tiny snips. Not like that. There we go. All right. We'll cut them down a little bit. Make them look like sticks. Do you think I'm going to make them look like sticks? I'm not real good about it. I don't know that I'm very good at making a stick hands. Or stick arms. We'll see what happens if it looks like thick arms when we're done. All right, there we go. All right, let's get some glue on them. I have to do the same thing with this. I have to put a little bit of glue on like that. And here's one stick on. Here's another stick on. It looks simple arms. Then look too bad. Now he just needs a couple other things. They put a scarf around his neck. Maybe put care for his nose. And they put some boots on. You can do whatever you want with your snowman. You can make some flowers in his hair. Or maybe you wanted to have a big tall hat. These are snowman. You can make them any way you want. But that right there is my name, snowman. P, a, M this pain. All right, well, that's it for me today. I hope you have fun. I hope you learned something about my next show, man. And had some fun making your snowman and help you spell your name. You can mix all the snowman but the snowball app. And try to find out where your name's at. My name's hard to do that with because it just got three letters. Just pee. Hey, and so, but you can make your show snowman how you want to. Maybe you want to add in the scarf or maybe you want to give him some boots or a broom or a toboggan. Maybe it's bargaining instead of a tall hat. All right. Well, you have fun making your snowman and maybe if you will replace ourselves. You can make whatever. All right, I'll see you later. Bye.
