Math lesson about Graph Lines
Hi class, this is miss champagne, and today I'm going to teach you, I excel less than 8 AA .6 graphing a line. And our first equation written in slope intercept form is Y equals negative 9 X plus ten. All right, so you have three easy steps. The first step. Circle the sign. And the last number of your equation. So if you have Y equals negative 9 X plus ten, you're going to circle the plus and the ten. This is called your Y. Intercept. Second step. Find. The number you just circled. So find the Y intercept on the Y axis. And put a dot. Okay? So we're going to find the Y intercept that we just circled the positive ten on the Y axis. This is important because you have two number tens. You have one on the X axis and one on the Y axis. So remember that this, the axis going up and down is your Y axis. You want to find that number on your Y axis. Because it's a positive ten, it's going to be up here somewhere. So let's look at your actual graph and find out where that is.
So I'm going to take a look at the actual lesson. So if you look at here, you go to I excel dot com. You're going to type in WWW dot ixl dot com and under search 8 AA .6. You click on this title and it will come up here. So our first equation is Y equals negative 9 X plus ten. So the first step says to put a dot on the positive ten. So I'm going to scroll up. There's a positive ten here on the Y axis. But there's also a positive ten down here on the X axis. Make sure that you put that dot on the Y axis. I'm going to put a dot here. On the Y axis. Our next step or our final step is to look at the slope. The number in front of X is called your slope. So let's look and see what we're going to do with that for our last step. So this is going to say last. I will count. The slope. Going up. And. To the right. If slope is positive. I will count going up. And to the right, if slope is positive, or. I will count the slope. Going up. And to the left. If slope is. Negative. So we're always going up, regardless if it's positive or negative, the only difference is if it's positive, we're going to the right. If it's negative, we're going to the left. Okay? So let's do the last step. I see here that my slope is a negative 9 over one.
There's an imaginary one up underneath this 9. So my slope is actually negative 9 over one. There's always an imaginary one here. The top number tells you to go up, and because this is negative, it tells the bottom number to go to the left. So let me grab that really quickly. So here, you'll see that I can not go up any further. So instead of going up into the left, I'm going to do the total opposite, which is I'm going to go down into the right. So I'm going to go down 9 lines. So let me count. So remember, because we can not go up any further because there's no more lines, I'm going to do the total opposite, and I'm going to go down 9, and to the right. So let me write that down on the notes. Under the last step. If I'm going to put a star, I can not go up and write. Then I will do the opposite. And go down. And left. And the same thing for if it's negative. So if I can not go up into the right, then I'll do the opposite, and I'll go down, and then I'll go to the left. So here, I was supposed to go up and to the left. Now I'm going to go down and to the right. So I'm going to go down 912-345-6789. I'm going to go to the right one. And I'm going to put a dot there. This is how my line looks that matches this equation. So this line matches Y equals negative 9 X plus ten. I have the dot on the Y intercept, which is the positive ten. I was supposed to go up and to the left, but I don't have any more numbers to go up, so I went down 9 until the right one. And here is my line. So let's hit enter and see what that does. Submit.
