Like using school websites, playing games, or using social media. You probably use passwords all the time to get onto a website, game, tablet, or phone. Passwords help us keep everything we're doing online, private. Away from the eyes of strangers or hackers. But what is a password? A password is a secret word or phrase that lets you get onto an app or device. It's a way to keep other people out, like a key to a lock on your front door. Whoever has the key can unlock the door. Having a password is a great way to stay safe online. But it's also important to practice good password skills. There are many great skills you can use every day. One good password skill is to make your password strong. The stronger it is, the safer it is. Strong passwords are long and have special characters and numbers they use upper case and lower case letters too. It can be a word, phrase or sentence that is easy for you to remember, but hard for someone else to guess. My dog loves one treat hashtag daily is a strong password. One, two, three, four is not. Here are some great password skills to be really safe. Use a different password for every website or app you use. Try not to share your passwords with friends. Even if they ask. You can share it with your mom, dad, or other trusted grown-up. Change your passwords often. The more you change your passwords, the safer you are. And if you think somebody knows your password, change it. Ask a grown-up for help if you need it. So remember, passwords keep us safe online.
