The Story of Hinduism
Hinduism, one of the world's great religions. It is known by many faces. It was born in India 3500 years ago. As it grew, it gathered the ideas of many religions, just as the river gathers The Rain. The ancient texts of Vadim and the respect for the power of priests in brahmanism all flowed into Hinduism. The earliest writings were the rig Veda, a work of a thousand pins. As time passed, other works followed, the brahmanas and the upanishads expressing the beliefs that became Hinduism.
They told of the Hindu universe where the world and the heavens are enclosed in a sphere like a cosmic egg. They described the essence of all reality known as raman that fills everyone and everything. They explained the cycle of birth and rebirth known as samsara and how one's past actions or karma, determine the quality of one's next life. And they told of all the gods and their powers, revealing the mysteries of life. Hinduism gives direction to the daily lives of Hindus. It teaches that people should remain in their social group or cast.
It states the duties or Dharma that each person must fulfill. It has a ritual to Mark every event from the celebration of birth to the morning of the dead. These things have carried on to this day. Ancient, complex and a powerful force in the lives of 700 million Hindus, this is Hinduism.
