The Siberian Bear Hunting Suit
History
Find out all about the famous Siberian Bear Hunting Suit.
This episode is Siberian Bear Hunting Suit. You are camping in the wilderness and it's a gorgeous day. You decide it's time to leave camp and take a little nature walk. Suddenly you noticed a rather large bear in the distance. You hope perhaps he didn't notice you but unfortunately he does. You decide to turn around and make your way back toward camp. When you get back to camp the bear is nowhere to be seen.
As the light fades you turn in for the night and chuckle about your earlier experience with that bear. Until he returns later and eats you. Humans and bears have been going toe to toe almost since time began. Bears are one of the largest predators on land. If you stumble upon one when they are having a bad day or looking for a snack, there's going to be trouble, mister. And that brings us to why you might need this, the Siberian Bear Hunting Suit from the 1800s.
Presumably one would get into the outfit and be able to fearlessly hunt bears without being attacked and be eaten. The long spikes protruding from the suit are supposed to protect you from any attack or even an unwanted bear hug. As you can see here, you can also do this with a friend or perhaps with a date. What you are looking at now is an actual suit displayed in a museum in Houston, Texas. By the way, they also call the suit Porcupine man or the Wild Man's Suit. The suit is made of leather and has an iron helmet.
I suppose that is further protection from a bear crushing your skulls. Not much more than that is known about it. I would imagine that anyone hunting a bear might feel they could get some sort of protection from it but we don't really know. I guess the only thing to do is to get a volunteer and put it on. Go into the woods and find a bear and see what happens. Any volunteers?
