The Plants Life Cycle
Don't have a green thumb? That's okay. You don't have to be an expert gardener to appreciate the beauty and value, plants provide to our world. As you learn about the life cycle, keep these questions in mind. What is the life cycle of a plant? What are the functions of leaves and how do plants depend on them? In what ways do fruits help plants survive? The life cycle of any common flowering plant begins with a seed. The seed germinates. Rose into a mature plant. Flowers and bears fruit that contain the seeds of the next generation. Leaves help plants grow by absorbing light and converting it into food. Once a mature plant has flowered, part of the flower becomes the fruit. The fruit covers and protects the seeds until they are dispersed. Like every living organism, plants have a life cycle through which they grow, mature, and reproduce.
Let's investigate how the life cycle continues to provide earth with generations of new plants. The life of a plant begins inside a seed. Here, the tiny plant embryo or very small beginning of a plant will soon receive the assistance it needs to start growing. Germination is the process through which the seed breaks apart and the embryo hidden inside begins to grow with the help of water and nutrients from the surrounding soil. As the young plant also known as a seedling, develops into a mature plant, new leaves form. Leaves are critical to the plant's survival. Plants are completely dependent on their leaves. Without them, plants could not produce food or grow. Inside the leaf is a miniature laboratory of sorts.
A place where light is used to produce food through a process called photosynthesis. When a plant is mature, it's ready to reproduce. The reproductive process is a series of events that take place within the plant's flower. There, a sperm unites with an egg to create an embryo, which is then safely confined inside a seed coat. Plants truly bear the fruits of their own labor. After producing at seas, part of the flower goes through a dramatic transformation and becomes the fruit that will encase the seeds in assist in their dispersal. Supplant nears the end of its life cycle, it will disperse its seeds, triggering the beginning of the cycle for the next generation.
