Chapter 1 of The Case of the Missing Lettuce
Good morning, boys and girls. I have found an exciting book that I would like to share with you today. And it's actually going to be in three parts because it's a little bit of a mystery. So this book is a book that I've actually had since I was younger. And it's a classic who done it. So we're going to be trying to figure out who committed this crime in this book. This is a mystery book. So this story is called the case of the missing lettuce. Today we're going to read chapter one and make some predictions about what we think is going to happen in the next time we'll do chapter two. Here we go. Chapter one, the first clue. Many beaver and Perry possum. We're having lunch in their new detective agency when Robert rabbit rushed through the door. Betty, Perry, come quickly, he cried. Last night, someone stole my head of lettuce. Don't be upset, said Perry, you have lots of lettuce in your garden. No, no said Robert, this was a very special lettuce head. You must find it. Betty and Perry followed Robert to his garden.
I was growing that lettuce for the county fair. It was beautiful and sure to win first prize. What's first prize asked Perry? I brand new shiny pogo stick, said Robert, with red tassels on the handles. See? It's gone. Said Robert. Sure is, said Perry. Whoever took the lettuce had to have seen it in your garden and plotted how to steal it, said Betty. They're planning on stealing it. Why don't you write the down the names of everyone, you showed the head of lettuce two, she said. Look, shadow Perry, he pointed to a large leaf of lettuce that was caught on the garden gate. Our first clue said Betty. Betty took out her magnifying glass and looked at the leaf, I better hold on to this, she said, it may be useful later on. Betty checked Roberts list. We can cross off Barry blue Jay, she said. He would have flown away, not walked through the games.
Let's go visit the other suspects, said Betty, we'll start with sharpie porcupine. Okay, so in looking at their list of suspects, we have sharpie porcupine. We have Dottie deer. What kinds of animals do we think would try to steal some lettuce? What types of animals like to eat lettuce? What types of animals don't fly? Like the blue Jay that would walk through that gate to steal that lettuce. Looks like we have another name that's not quite on here. So we know that these are not the only two suspects. Come back tomorrow to find out what happens in chapter two.
