The Broken Down Squatter (Charles Augustus Flower)
Elementary / Math / Ratios and Proportions
Charles Augustus Flower (born in 1856 in Port Fairy, Victoria) was a Queensland farmer who himself escaped financial ruin. He submitted poetry to “The Queenslander” under his pen-name Anthos. “The Broken Down Squatter” was published in 1894 , and it would seem to refer to the great bank crash of 1893, and the “Federation Drought “ of that period. However, there is earlier version, also by Anthos, called “The Squatter’s Farewell” which was published a decade earlier, in 1884, also in “The Queenslander” (1st November). Charles Augustus Flower died in Roma, Queensland in 1948. Violin by Mikhail Bugaev For more songs, go to www.thequeenslandtiger.com
