The echoing sound of dogs barking and students chattering excitedly filled the Farmington Regional Animal Shelter on October 16, 2015. Kirtland Middle School and the surrounding community donated many things such as towels, dog and cat food, peanut butter, and other items that the shelter needs every day to maintain a safe and happy environment for its occupants. These students from Kirtland Middle School's Student Council filed into a large room where they began their interactive tour of the facility. They started with the messy task of making peanut-butter and kibble pizzas for the shelter dogs, followed by an educational tour of the facilities, from the kennels, to the training areas, and even to the medical clinic where the animals are spayed, neutered, and micro-chipped. Student Council sponsor Jennifer Jesse stressed that the trip was a chance for her students to have the rewarding experience of serving the community as well as enriching their education.
