Sorting By Attributes

Learn how to sort shapes based on the following attributes: shape, color, size and thickness
Look at all these shapes!
How am I ever going to know how to sort them?
So today we are going to learn about shapes and how to sort them based on their attributes. Sorting by Attributes.
What is an Attribute?
It is the quality, or feature characteristic of an object that is used for grouping purposes. Why do we sort objects?
That is a very good question.
Sorting objects helps us to have a visual awareness of what objects we have.
Example: If you wanted to know if you had the correct amount of checker pieces, you could sort all the red and black colored checkers to make it easier to count and see if you are missing any.
So ways to sort objects.
Examples of attributes include color, shape, size and thickness.
Here we are going to learn sorting by shapes. So if you look at the column here, we have the Square column and a triangle column.
And then we have the shapes over here. So then we are going to look at this shape which is shape which is square and has four sides, then we need to move it over to the square column.
Now the next shapes is a triangle. This shape has 3 sides and we are going to move it over to the triangle column.
So what about this shape here. What shape is this?
Yes! It is a square and so it would have to go to the square column.
So what about this shape right here, what shape is this?
Yes! It is a triangle and so it would have to go to the triangle column.
Very good!
So now we are going to sort by color.
So here we have a blue column and a red column.
And here we have the shapes that we need to sort.
So looking at this blue square here, where should we put that blue square?
Yes! It should be in the blue column.
Very good?
And what about this red square right here? Where do we put the red square?
Yup! We put it in the red column because we are sorting by columns and not shapes.
And then what about this shape right here?
We are going to put it in the blue column since it?s a blue triangle.
And then we are going to put the red triangle in which column?
Very good! We are going to put it in the red column.
Now we are going to try sorting by size. So if you can see here, we have our big shapes and our small shapes.
So looking at this first really big square? Where do you think we should move it?
Yes! To the big column.
And then looking at this tiny square. Where do you think we should move it?
Very good! To the small column.
Now let?s look at this red triangle. Where should we move this red triangle to. It?s kind of small, it?s smaller than this big one here, right?
