There I am amongst all the humming and buzzing grabbing my ukulele, sitting down, and starting to sing our gathering song. It’s a sunny day and the honey light, as I affectionately call it to the children, is pouring through the east facing windows. I sing to the children to float like a bubble to the rug. Some float, some torpedo themselves. It’s amazing how a room of kids can charge the room with its own brand of energy. The children slowly drift all around me. They know that this is a time when we sing songs, act out stories, make silly rhymes, dance, and laugh. Today I start with The Feelings Song. One child points to the words of the song written on large paper. Some children sway to the rhythm moving their arms and legs, others are singing softly or loudly, some are watching. The song discusses big feelings and examines strategies that they can use to process them. The first verse goes: When I’m scared and feeling doubt I dig real deep to figure out What’s this fear all about? The monster isn’t under the bed. That’s just something in my head. Something I heard someone say, a-long-time ago. But it isn’t true for me, so please let me be I choose to live in peace.
