Repeated Addition (How to Write Out the Sums)
Number Operations
This video is a continuation on how to do repeated addition. If it some point you feel you a little confused, go back and watch the first video.
Hello. In this video we will be looking at repeated addition again. Remember, we?ve already looked at it so to have a quick recap let?s do this quiz.
In this example, we have apples. Can we count how many apples we have? We have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight apples. Is there a way in which we could count these apples without counting all of them at once? Let?s count the top row and see what happens. One, two, three, four. Four apples. The bottom row one, two, three, four. There are another four apples. If we say four plus four, that would give us eight. So we write that as four plus four equals eight.
Now, let?s look at it another way. We could count them in twos. Like this one, two. That gives us two. One, two, that give us another two. One, two, that gives us another two. One, two, that gives us another two. That?s four twos and all of them together give us eight.
The last try would be if we add them in groups of four. So, we say these four apples give us four and this group of apples gives us another four. Therefore, we say four plus four equals eight.
But remember there?s many different ways in which you could write this. Now, let?s look at the different ways using the same example we?ve been using previously, with the eight apples. We could write them as a sentence. We could write it as an addition sum. We could also write the answers as a multiplication sum.
Are you ready to see how these answers would look? Remember, we always use the same example of eight apples. Let?s look at the three answers. The sentence would read two groups of four. The addition sum would read four plus four. The multiplication sum could read four times two equals eight. Look the addition sum could also be written as two plus two plus two plus two like we did during the example.
Now are you ready to complete the worksheet? Remember, if at anytime you get stuck during the worksheet you could always look at the videos again. This will help you complete the worksheet with better ease.
