Reading Strategy- Chunky Monkey

The particular lesson should take place in late fall of first grade after students have demonstrated some familiarity with initial, medial and final sounds of words. At this point in the year, students also have a mastery of multiple vowel combinations and consonant blends that are instrumental in decoding larger words. While this introductory lesson was presented whole group, it continued with individual practice and reinforcement in small groups.
