Presidential Fight Club - Episode 1: Prologue
Middle School / Social Sciences / Government
A few announcements about the series before we dive into the fight.
For further study of Presidential Fight Club with the rest of the brackets and downloadables for the classroom, visit PresidentialFightClub.com!Presidential Fight Club is provided by History on the Net! History on the Net was founded by Heather Wheeler a historian and former history teacher. It is currently owned and maintained by Regnery Publishing, a division of Caron Broadcasting, Inc., and edited by Scott Rank. This series is modeled on March Madness, the NCAA tournament, and in the same way we want it to be a little bit interactive. What I mean by that is for March Madness people will print off tournament brackets and make predictions on who will win and who will enter the sweet sixteen and the final four. We have similar brackets like that that you can download. If you go to presidentialfightclub.com and guess how the tournament is going to go. Plus, you can also find an infograph that lists every single president. Their height, their weight, and their military experience and their special abilities that will allow them to win a fight. For example, George Washington?s special ability is that he was an elite sportsman of his day. Competitive in archery, horseback riding, swimming and wrestling and iron bar throwing. Or James Madison who despite being only five four he is the only man to take up arms while president in the War of 1812.
So anyway, with this series, you?ll see what happens when Barrack Obama goes against William Howard Taft, Donald Trump goes against FDR, or when Abraham Lincoln goes against Teddy Roosevelt.
Lastly, I?ll mention that this series originally appeared on my main podcast which is called History Unplugged. And in that show, I get into topics like these, but I also explore other areas of history. Whether its Sumerian high priestesses and how they combine the duties of religious cleric and prostitute. Or I look at when ancient Greeks stopped worshipping the Greek gods. Or what?s it like to undergo surgery in the middle ages. Or why Robert E. Lee was a terrible general in the civil war. Or the world of spies in World War II - How the secrets of the Manhattan Project were stolen by the Soviet Union. You can check out all those things at the History Unplugged podcast if you go to historyunpluggedpodcast.com.
Alright that?s all for me. So check out the next episode to dive in to Presidential Fight Club.
