How to utilize Pinterest in online classroom
Welcome. Today we'll be showing you how to utilize Pinterest into your online classroom or for your teaching practices. So to access Pinterest, you will use a web browser and type in Pinterest dot com. From there, we'll give you the option to either click log in or sign up. When you select sign up, you'll simply put in a username, email, password, and it will ask you different interests so that way Pinterest knows what type of content to send your way. So to create that community of learners, you can have your students and the teacher create their own profiles. And it's wonderful because you can actually follow each other. So for today's purposes, I went ahead and already created a profile.
So I'm going to go ahead and click log in. And I'm going to go ahead and type in my password. So you can see my username here is a test student and I'm going to go ahead and type in continue to go head to Pinterest. So here we are. All of the pins are auto generated. So you're always getting new area content. As you can see up here, you're going to have your main menu, your home screen. Today's pens. Notification bar, messaging, and then your settings. I would say that the majority of the time I utilize the search menu because this is going to allow you to type in specific area content that you want to go ahead and look at. So what we're going to do now is I want to show you how to create different boards for your students. So I'm going to go ahead to my settings profile here. And as you can see, I already have a board created.
I have the mathematics folder. My username, and you'll see that I currently have zero followers. However, this can change. You can have your students or group members in a project follow each other. You can have the teacher in search follow one and another way this creates that community of online learners. So what I'm going to do next is I want to create another board just to show you how to do the different content. Me personally, as an educator, I would have maybe boards created for each subject. I'd love to discuss it. You can do this every best. Do it. By different topics, different subjects, different group projects. So I'm going to go ahead and click create either pin or board. So I'm going to click a board. So let's go ahead and type in science. You do have the option to keep this board secret. So if you're a teacher and you want to create different ideas and not share it with your students just yet, you can go ahead and hit this check mark. Or maybe group members. So we're going to go ahead and keep it public. So that way other students and educators can access this board so they can get some ideas. So here's our science board.
We have zero pins so far, but we are going to go ahead and change that. So let's go ahead back to the main menu of Pinterest. Okay. So let's go ahead and let's say we are currently learning about the ecosystem. So we're going to type in ecosystem. And then all of this content will then be generated for you. So you're going to see different projects, cards. So this is great for students, teachers, parents to all learn about this and get different ideas. So for example, maybe as a teacher, you're looking for a great project for the students to utilize. This would be a great idea. And this will take you to the link where you can then look at that project. Maybe you want to do an online poster board to learn about the parts of the ecosystem. This will give you different ideas. So as you can see, there's so much content that the student can utilize, different projects, so this is a wonderful resource for students and parents. So let's say that a student sees this poster board of the world ecosystem and finds it very interesting. They want to keep it on their board. So they're going to simply click save. Okay, so this was saved to our profile. Or if you click here, you can then save it to a specific board. So we want to put this in our science folder.
You can add a note to yourself as something as simple as review before test. So this is a great note. So let's go back to our settings profile for all of our boards. And as you can see here, look, there's your board. So everything is organized and everything has a place so you can go back and review. Now let's say one student save this pen and other students looking through their different classmates, sharing ideas, and they also like this pin. They can go ahead and save this. So let's create another board. So we're going to go ahead to our main profile again. And let's create another board. Let's say for this one, we are looking for, let's say, English. So we have our board then created. It's going to give you ideas for different pins. And then you can go ahead back to your main menu. And look for different English. Now let's say for our English class, we're reading a specific novel. So let's say we're reading where the mountain meets the moon. You can go ahead and type that book. Get to here. And look at all the different pins that it will auto generate. So you can do different classroom projects, different centers, different activities for students. So this is a great way just to share different things for your board.
So let's say as a teacher, I really like this arts and craft project for our students. So I'm going to go ahead and click here. Or I'm sorry, we're going to add this to our English folder. So I'm going to go ahead and click save. Perfect. So let's create a different board. And you can do various different things. So you don't feel like you have to just stick to the different areas or different subject content. Let's say, as a student, you want to create a board specific for your book wish list. So this is great because teachers can take a look and see what their students are interested in or maybe their parents for a holiday list. So let's go ahead and let's look at different books that we want to do. So let's say we are looking at new books, we're interested in. I'm just going to type in something very simple as fourth grade books. A fourth grade novels.
And as you can see, there's so much of the students can look at. Okay, so let's say a student really is interested in receiving the polar express book. So we'll go ahead and type it in. And here we are. So you can just simply save on the book that you want to put to your board. I'm going to go ahead and put this into my wishlist. And it will then be safe. And when you go through these different pins, it will take you to the website, the different links, and it's a great way for teachers to then go ahead or for parents to purchase them in favor books. So this is a wonderful resource. I definitely recommend it for online classrooms, even for personal use. It's a great way to organize your different thoughts, areas, and it's a great way to collaborate online. It's free for all students. It's available 24/7, which is wonderful for all types of learners and to do encourage them.
