New Technology Artifact-McClean
Technology in the Classroom
Hello, my name is Bettina McLean, and I'm a graduate student at Liberty University online. The purpose of this video is to highlight new technology to use in the classroom. I chose 360 cameras as the new technology to use with my third goal to create presentations of cultures represented by students at Oakmont elementary. This can be implemented by students with teacher guidance. It should be noted that I will receive parent permission before students are interviewed or included in videos. An article published by Business Insider dot com in 2019 listed the best 360 degree camera for kids as the ricoh theta 5. That camera is no longer being manufactured. However. The theta SC two seems to be very similar in features. It's currently listed as two 69 95. It has a face mode, which focuses on facial features. It is able to be downloaded by a smartphone with Bluetooth connection. It can create four K movies. It has high speed wireless transfer, and it has sharing capabilities. There are apps that allow it to upload to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and there's also an app for editing. Some of the other product features are, it can take three minute videos, it has 14 gigabyte internal memory, and it can take a total of 32 minutes worth of video before needing to be offloaded. There is also a bundle package where you can get a tripod and a selfie stick with a lens cover. This is three 99 94. Amazon currently has a similar bundle for two 96 95, which seems to be a better deal. This camera will be used by students. To record interviews and record in common areas of the school to highlight the culture's represented. I plan to use the open spaces such as the GM, the school garden, cafeteria, and classrooms, while students are working in small groups. Here are some pictures from our school garden. It's a large space. It has an outdoor classroom, it has many planting beds with vegetables and flowering plants. And the kids love this space. This is one of the areas where I will be supervising students in recording videos to highlight the cultures represented on our campus. This will be a student led project based activity with teacher guidance and assistance is needed. The selfie stick and tripod will be used by students as they create the videos. Student narration during the videos will highlight the different cultures represented while noting similarities among them. Each video segment can be up to three minutes long according to the camera specifications. The segments can be put together to create a longer video which can be shared on the school Facebook page. This will allow students and families to learn more about the cultures represented at our school through the eyes of the students. Thank you.
