Narrative Writing

So this is my narrative story. I wrote a story about the time I went to China and specifically the time that I went to the Great Wall of China. And I really liked this particular scene in the story because it was when I was in the middle of climbing all of these stairs up to the top of the Great Wall of China. And there is an option to take a lift like almost like a ski lift to the top, but we opted to take the 1 million stare version and I was really tired and really cranky. And so I liked this scene. It's my favorite scene because I added it into my story. In my revision process, when I wanted to elaborate and so I'm going to read it to you right now. After a few minutes of slowly trudging up the stairs, I halted, causing Alex to walk into me. What's going on? He asked. This is ridiculous. I am literally going to die trying to get up this mountain of stairs. I whined. Alex's side heavily, Kristen, you are not going to die. Just keep going. One foot in front of the other. Oh, I still don't understand why we couldn't just take the lift to the top, I cried. It's worth it, Kristen, just keep going. Alex said patiently. I rolled my eyes. Easy for him to say, I thought. He's already been to the Great Wall. He is proper motivation, plus he doesn't get how tiring this is. So what made me really proud of this particular scene was that I, like I said, I added it in my revision process and I used all sorts of techniques like precise language, revealing actions, dialog, and inner thinking. And you can see my precise language was highlighted in green. And I thought that it really helped to show my theme in the story. The theme of my story was that even though something might be really difficult, you shouldn't quit because it could still give you a really big reward at the end. And I felt like all the things that I added, the precise language, which was also kind of revealing actions, the dialog between Alex and I and my own inner thinking all helped to hint at the theme really well. So I was really happy with this scene and I felt like it became really powerful because of the techniques that I used and because it hinted at my theme.
