My Mommies and Me
College and University / Ethics / Love
This is a story about a boy named Isaac, and what life is like with two mommies. One day Isaac is at school and he realizes he isn't like the other students who have daddies. His friend Jacob also doesn't feel like the others, because he doesn't have a mommy. At the end of the day, Isaac and Jacob have a play-date. After playing together for some time, Jacob helps Isaac set the table for dinner. The two learn about each other's families, and that everyone's family is different. One theme emphasized in this story is that family does not have to be a traditional mother/father dynamic. Family can come in all different shapes and sizes. It does not matter who makes up a family; what matters is that people within a family love and support each other for who they are. While this book shines light on LGBT+ families and as single parents, it celebrates the love within every unique family.
