Mornings With Mr. C Episode 1: Respect
Social Emotional Learning
Hello there, friends! And welcome to Mornings with Mr. C. With a healthy balance of learning, entertainment, and exercise, I’m confident that we can get your day started off right.
This episode features the word respect.
For me, respect means a lot of things. Saying please and thank you, holding the door for someone, even taking a polite bite of food that someone else prepared for you that might not look that appealing. Like this peanut butter and pickle sandwich. For a more formal definition of the word respect, let’s go over to the Word Warrior.
Word Warrior here to talk to you about the word respect. The word respect means to be kind and considerate towards other people. But don’t just stop there, the word respectful means full of respect. On the negative side comes the prefix disrespect, which turns it into a negative. Disrespect means to be rude and inconsiderate. But I know none of you are going to be that way. Be respectful. Back to you Mr. C.
Thanks, Word Warrior! Let’s take a field trip into the community and see what the word respect means to some other people.
Respect means treat others like you want to be treated.
I show respect by listening to my teachers all the time.
I share my toys with my friends.
Respect is to truly care what other people think.
We’ve had a lot of great views on the word respect. But what if someone is showing disrespect? What’s important to understand why.
People that make fun of other people, threaten or hit other people, are examples of disrespect. But not all examples are that obvious. It’s very important to remember that we come from different backgrounds and different experiences, and sometimes a person is disrespectful and they don’t even realize it. You can stand up to disrespect using the 3C Approach – communicate calmly but clearly.
Now, the first drill is gonna be a basketball drill. We’re gonna be catching and shooting ten times. Don’t have a ball? Well, you don’t need one. All we need is our imagination. Let’s start.
Our next drill is gonna be called the Respectful Run. When you see a word pop across the screen, and it’s respectful, you’re gonna give a thumbs up. If it’s not respectful, you’re gonna give thumbs down as well as make a disgusted face. Are you ready? Let’s begin.
Sharing.

Great job keeping up, friends. Our last exercise is called Bowling Alley. You’re gonna take your imaginary bowling bowl, step forward, and give it your best roll.
