Lesson Plan: Learning the Alphabet
Elementary
Good morning class, welcome. And today we will be learning the alphabet. Okay, so the main goal of today's lesson is to enhance your ability to understand letters and simple words. You will be able to name all of the letters of the alphabet in order and in a randomized sequence. You will learn to follow words from left to right and understand that words are separated by spaces. You will also learn to name all letters of the alphabet whether in alphabetical order, or in an integrated sequence. Do you all have any understanding of the concepts of print? Okay, what have you learned about it? Okay. That's good. Okay. Who all here likes cartoons? Okay. What about playing games? That is good. We will play some games today. Let's see here. After we get done with the introduction and playing a few games, we will listen to a song called the alphabet song. I will ask you guys how many letters you can remember and what those letters are after we have listened to the song three times. After we complete that activity, I will hand each of you a bag of beans. Each bean has a capital letter or a lower case letter. You will need to pair those beans and then put them in order. If you can not put them in order, that is completely okay. You will learn them. After you have finished grouping the beans, I will ask you to spell your name with the beans. Raise your hand and show me your work once you are done. As a fun extra activity, I will be handing each of you 26 cards with letters on them. I and your other teachers will be coming around to help you glue some of the supplies onto those cards in the shape of each letter. Those of you who are ahead of the rest of your class after this lesson is complete, we'll receive a smiley face sticker in your planner. If you need extra help throughout the lesson, please raise your hand and ask me to help you. I am here to help you whenever you need it. Does anyone have any questions? No. Okay. Let's begin.
