Homophones with Bobo & Friends
Middle School
Created by two seventh grade students for my ELA class.
Bobo and friend learning about homophones!
Homophones are words that can sound the same as other words but are spelled differently and can mean two completely different things. It?s important to know their differences because when writing it can get confusing.
Dang, you really sound like a teacher.
I know. Anyways, let?s list down the most common misspelled words in English.
Alright, I?m ready.
Here we have there, their, and they?re. The differences between these words is that there is used as a direction. For example, ?Crystal is over there near the tree.? There is used as a possessive pronoun. ?Their house is purple.? Lastly, they?re is a contraction of they and are. ?They?re ready to leave.?
Huh, interesting. Any others?
Of course. There?s your and you?re. Its and it?s. Then and than.
Okay, okay. I can only remember so many.
Sorry. Got carried away. I?ll simplify it all down then.
Can I read it to the audience?
Yes sure. I?m many ways tired of speaking so much.
Alright. Your is a possessive pronoun kind of like their. Meanwhile you?re is a contraction of you and are. Its is also used as a possessive pronoun which is used if there is no gender. ?The train is blue along with its wheels.? Then is an adverb that can be used as a point in time or it can be used in chronological order. ?Back then Bobo was trapped in space? or ?First you would get a bowl then put the brownie mix along with eggs and water.? It?s is a contraction as well containing it and is. Sam said, ?It?s going to rain today.?
Wait, really?
It?s an example Bobo. Calm down. Besides who?s the water-sensitive robot here?
Eh, true. But hey looks like we covered everything.
Good. It?s tiring being a teacher to random people on the internet.
I hope my good friend Tyler and I taught you something. Remember to always check your writing before you hit that evil send button.
See you.
