Georgia is a very unique and diverse state. It has many features that are different from any other state. Georgia has 5 habitats. Throughout this video, you will learn about each of them and see pictures of the wildlife, as well as features of the habitat. The first habitat is to Piedmont, Piedmont means foothills, and it covers about one third of Georgia. Atlanta is located in the Piedmont. It is the south's largest city. Some of the animals that live in the Piedmont include river otters, possums, raccoons, squirrels, and deer. As well as over 20 different kinds of birds. The Piedmont has forests of oak, Hickory, and pine. The Piedmont is known for its red clay and has lots of mining areas. Granite marble and quartz are found here. The next habitat is the mountains. The mountains of Georgia have some of the oldest rock in the state. The blue ridge mountains are part of the Appalachian Mountains. The black bear can be found in the mountains, as well as bobcats, gray foxes, beavers, and woodchucks, over 27 species of salamanders and many different types of birds can also be found here. The mountain region is known for its co forest and some of the trees include the basswood, maples, Magnolia, dogwood, and red button. The third region is the swamp and marsh region. It contains the okefenokee swamp, which is the largest swamp in North America. Its name, given by the seminal Indians, means land of trembling earth. There are over 70 islands that make up this swamp. The swamp and marsh habitat is located in the coastal plains region. Alligators, ducks, herons, cranes, and over 36 different kinds of snakes can be found in the swamps and marshes of southern Georgia. The fourth region of Georgia is the coastal plain. It has hot humid summers and mild winters. It has soils ideal for farming. Many types of animals can be found there. They include wild hogs, rabbits, deer, muskrats, and snakes. Alligator stopping turtles can be found in the waters of the coastal plains as well. They can grow to be up to 300 pounds. The city of Savannah is located in the coastal plain. It has lots of live oak and cypress trees that are covered with Spanish moss. The final Georgia habitat is the ocean region. Georgia borders the Atlantic Ocean and has barrier islands right off of its coast. The waters off of Georgia's coast have many animals, including a loggerhead sea turtle, which nests off its beaches. It can lay up to 120 eggs at a time. The waters are also teeming with fish, crab, and shrimp. Georgia's state marine animal is the right whale. It comes to have its babies, called calves. They are an endangered species. People from all over the world come to fish and vacation on George's beaches. Georgia is a fun place to live, and many people from around the world are moving here each year. Any of George's regions is a great place to live, work, learn, and play in.
