Explore Research at the University of Florida: The Panama Canal is currently being expanded on a scale not seen since the original excavations 100 years ago. This expansion provides scientists the opportunity to study fossil-rich sites that were previously unavailable or unknown, and contribute to our understanding of the ancient Neotropics. The Panama Canal Project brings together a diverse team of junior and senior researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, and science teachers from the United States and Panama as partners on the program.
