Ancient History

6th Grade

So today I'm going to be talking about different contributions and inventions of the ancient Egyptians. And so this is hieroglyphic hieroglyphics or hieroglyphs, whatever you want to call it. And so basically it is a language where when you write it down, it is pictures that form different words. So for example, these two symbols mean high. And for hieroglyphics, and so they would use this to keep records and they would write it on religious buildings like temples and pyramids. Speaking of pyramids, pyramids were actually where they would bury fears, and so pyramids would have different hieroglyphics and pictures, carved into or painted along the walls and they were usually for religious purposes, and so like some of them described the journey to the afterlife or underworld. And it showed how oneness on sets then that's when they're traveling down. And then when the sun rises, that's coming back. And so they would put different kinds of things in the pyramids, different possessions, and they would put like statues or actually mummified different animals like cats and dogs. And they would have jars where they would keep organs in and with each jar had a specific purpose. Just now I mentioned mummification and there's actually what they would do before they buried the pharaoh. They would take all the organs out of the body and put it in the jars that I was talking about earlier. And then they would put different things like salt and oils in here and then they would wrap it up with lemon and then they would let it sit for a few days so that it could get ready to put in the coffin and then do it move this all to the pyramid to bury the fair. So since they were using different oils and stuff in mummification, this actually led to them getting better in medicine so like they could have figured out what a certain oil does and then they could have used that as a medicine. Now, what they would use to write a hieroglyphic phone, they used to just use clay tablets, but then they figured out they can use different reads by the Nile River to turn into something they called high res which is like an early version of paper. So that kind of led to the invention of paper and the person who figured out how to make it could have gotten inspiration from the ancient Egyptians and papyrus. And then one last thing I want to talk about is astrology, which is basically just like stars and space. And so they figured this stuff out because they wanted their pyramids to align with the stars. So they had to figure out astrology and another thing they figured out when they were building the pyramids. Was how to do math and they got better at math. He actually used many of their inventions and ideas and things they figured out to this day. For example, like I said earlier, we probably got the idea of paper from them because they invented papyrus and they also probably helped with written language. That's about all the contributions and inventions I'm going to talk about from ancient Egypt, there are probably way more, but those are just a few that I am going to talk about today. Thank you for listening. Bye.
