Beginning Teacher Classroom Observations Part
Math
Okay, boys and girls. Everybody's got their bag and everybody is ready to get started. Remember, when we first look at the objects that are inside our bags, we are making an estimate, so we're gonna take out one thing at a time. And we are going to use that little part of our body, that little part of our thumb, to think about how many inches do we think each object is. How many do we maybe close this? That's at your other one? What do you think about how many inches? For the skin. Is that the dirty? Is that the party? And then we're gonna look at it, and we're gonna see exactly how long is it. So what tool do we use to see exactly? Was this the sign that miss Rios used? No, she is the inch side, right? This side. Was your estimate close? Yeah, it was right on. Good job. So you put that in. For what? Beautiful. Keep going. Put that back in my bag and then find something else to measure. So we're looking at our string. Think about it. How many of these do you think is going to fit on this whole thing? Put it over here. There's a lot of. Okay, boys and girls. I was just working with a row in Cynthia, and we came to kind of something that was very tricky at first. And I'm not sure if anybody else is happy with this problem, but they figured out how to measure the string because the string is much longer than our ruler is. And what and Cynthia did, maybe Cynthia, can you tell everybody what you did? You want to share? We put this music there for the string, which stretched it out to the table. And we put the edge to one, and then we put our finger to the edge, and then we count, and then we have one, two, three, four, 5, 6, 7, 8, 6, 7, 8, 9, ten, 11, 12, and then we put our finger down and we turned the string. We pulled the string and 13 foot and then we count 1314 50 1617 1819 2021 22 2024. And then we pull it straight again and then we got 5 legs, 6 8 6 ten 7 28, 29. They kept adding inches. So then when they got to 12, they went 13, 14, 15, 16. So why don't you try that? If you didn't, if you were having a hard time measuring your string, everybody keep going. So we start at one or do we start at zero? Yeah. Yeah, we start at zero. Beautiful. The pencil you say. 7 inches. It over, over this side. Straight. This looks like 49 inches. Okay, ladies and gentlemen, it seems like everybody has pretty much finished measuring all of their objects. So I want Raven, thank you. I want everyone to please take all of their things and put them back inside their baggies and close them up. Good, I can tell lose this ready.
