The Area Model-Multiplication video lesson
Good morning, guys. Today we're gonna do a lesson on multiplication. So we've already learned about this, but I wanted you to have this video online just in case you needed a refresher while you're doing your homework, okay? So let's do 3421 times bad. We're gonna use the area model for this and so I'm gonna go ahead and get my box ready just like I would do in class if we were doing it together, okay? So we're gonna break down the first number using place value. So the first number is gonna be 3000. We're gonna draw our line 400 would come next. 20 and I'm just gonna draw an extra box off to the side for the one. Multiplied by 5.
All right, so we know that we have to start here. We're gonna do 5 times three because we know that's 15 and then there's three zeros for us to add. Then we'll do 5 times four, which is 20, and there's two zeros to add. 5 times two, which is ten, and there's only one zero to add, and then 5 times one is 5. Once we have all of those answers filled in, we know we just have to add them up. 15,000 plus 2000 is 17,000, so we can just go ahead and write that down. 100 plus 5 is 105, so we can write that. And then add them up. And our answer is 17,105. I hope this video helps you if you need it a little bit of help with the area model for your homework. Let me know if you need anything else. Bye guys
