Anesthetizing Right Whales
All / Health and Physical Education
Explore Research at the University of Florida: Mike Walsh, a Clinical Associate Professor of Veterinary Medicine, explains that in the wild, right whales often become entangled in hundreds of feet of fishing line gear. In addition to injury and infection, entangled whales may starve to death over time. Disentangling whales is difficult because they avoid people. UF has successfully anesthetized wild whales to aid in removal of debris.
