Disseminating information about the sixth grade curriculum night
Welcome 6th grade students and parents to Johnson elementary's curriculum night. We are so happy that you came to hear about your child's classroom. We will be explaining all of the important 6th grade expectations that will help your child be successful this year. Add Johnson, we strive to teach students the importance of being organized. Each student has an agenda to help them accomplish this task. Every day your child should be writing down each of the daily assignments, including his or her homework. Parents are encouraged to check and sign the agenda daily, teachers check the agenda regularly and use it as a communication piece. As stated previously, homework will be written down in the agenda every night. 6th graders are required to complete any classwork that they did not complete during the school day.
All work will be checked the following morning for completion. At times, there will be projects that students will be asked to complete a portion of at home. Parents will be notified in advance if this is the case. All students grades will be updated weekly and will be available on the parent portal. Parents are encouraged to check grades regularly. Students will be graded mostly on assessments and projects, but at times there will be some graded assignments. In addition to viewing the grade on the great pair of portal, the students will be bringing home progress reports every other week. Please review and sign progress reports right away and have your child bring it back to class. Moby max is a website that we will be using regularly in 6th grade to help fill some of the gaps in learning. We know that the last two years were a struggle with staying on top of learning, so we wanted a solution to help students feel more successful as we move into more complex concepts in math. Each student took a math placement test that identified areas for each student to focus on. Many students have already begun working on these areas and are moving right along.
Some of the students found that the concepts they are working on are super easy, but they were told to move through the concepts and show that they know the material so they can move on to harder material. Moby max can be accessed from home as well. If you would like your child to spend some extra time, please have them log in using their username and password. They were given. If you, as a parent, would like to sign in and view their progress, you may do so by going to the website listed, but select to log in as a parent. On the slide you will see your school's unique code from there you will enter your child's username and password. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions about Moby max.
