We learned to estimate quotients using compatible numbers. So we are going to look at our dividend and find a number that's close to it, but that's easy to divide by my divisor. So 389 is close to 400 and 400 divided by four is a really easy mental math problem because I know that four divided by four is one. So 400 divided by four is 100. Over here number two, 358 is close to 360. And 360 is really easy to divide by three. 36 divided by three is 12. So 360 divided by three is 120. I just add that zero to the end there. Down here number 7, 4156 as close to 4200. And 4200 is easy to divide by 7, just forget about those two zeros for a moment. Do 42 divided by 7 is 6. And then put your two zeros on the end. Down here, numbers 9 through 16 are a little bit different. We have to find two estimates that the quotient will be in between. So for each of our dividends, you're going to find a number below the dividend. That's easy to divide by your divisor and a number above your dividend. That's easy to divide by your divisor. So 1624 is between 1501 1800. And 1501 1800 are easy to divide by three. I know that 15 divided by three is 5. So 1500 divided by three is 500. 1800 divided by three will be 600. So I know that if I were to actually divide 1624 divided by three, my answer would be between 506 hundred. So it might be fun to try some of these and then actually check them with a calculator. Actually plug into your calculator 1624 divided by three and make sure that your quotient is between your estimate of 1501 1800.
