Today we started dividing just two digit dividends by one digit divisor. And we're practicing finding the quotient and the remainder. So if I'm dividing 13 divided by four, I need four groups, so I'm going to use four circles to show my four groups. And I'm dividing these 13 stars into my four groups. So I'm just putting one star in each of my groups until I have 13 stars all together. So there's a ten, 12. 13. So now I have 13 stars divided into four groups, but the problem is this group has four stars and the rest of them only have three. And when we're dividing each group needs to be even. So I'm going to take one star out, that's going to be my remainder. So 13 stars divided into four groups. Equals three with a remainder of one. And I can always double check so I have three, 6, 9, 12, 13 stars altogether, and they're divided evenly into four groups. With a remainder of one. So let's try another one here. So let's do 25 divided by 9. So now I'm going to have 9 groups. One, two, three, four, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and I'm putting 25 stars into these 9 groups. So I have one and each now. That means I have 9 stars all together. If I have two stars in each group, that's going to be 18 stars altogether. So now I'm up to 18 star so I have 7 left. I know that there's not enough to put one more star in each of my 9 groups because I only have 7 left. So that means that 25 divided by 9 is two with a remainder of 7.
