2.9 Multistep Multiplication Word Problems
Elementary / Math
Today we are practicing solving word problems with multiple steps. So we really have to focus on what the question is asking us and making sure we're using the information given correctly. So number two here, we know that Jonah picked 5 baskets each basket had 15 apples, so if we do 5 times 15, we'll figure out how many apples Jonah Pitt. But the problem also says that Jonah's for Friends also picked the same amount of apples and we're trying to determine how many apples they picked all together. So once you figure out how many apples, Jonah picked multiply that by 5 to figure out how many he picked including all of his friends. Then down here for number three, we're going to multiply 16 times 6 to figure out how many chairs there were altogether. And then in four rows, two chairs on each end are reserved for teachers. So that means four chairs in each of those rows are reserved for teachers. So once you figure out how many shares there are total, you need to subtract the number of chairs that were reserved for teachers, and that will give you the number of chairs reserved for students.
