A Screaming Good Time in Art

Thursday and Friday fifth grade art classes have been studying the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch. Students learned about the experience that Munch had in 1893 when he saw the sky turn red from the great volcanic eruption on the island of Krakatoa in Indonesia. Classes have discussed the style in which Munch draws and how he uses color to show emotion in his paintings. Students then chose something that makes them scream and created their very own “Scream” painting starting with the background and moving to the foreground. Finally, each student recorded their scream to match their painting and all paintings and screams were made into a video.
Less
