A Social Story: Personal Space

A Social Story of Personal Space
Brief summary:
Personal space is something that cannot be understated because people are conscious of their personal space. So when people encroach into someone?s personal space it makes them uncomfortable. We should our best to stay away from people's personal space because it scares people away. They may start to feel unsafe around you.
Personal space needs to be two step away from the next person whether in the classroom, home, playground or even on the stairs. Sometime we enter into people's personal space, especially those that are very close to you like your parent and friends when we want to hug or kiss them, and that's ok. This shows that these people are very close to you and that their personal space sometimes can be comforting -- they allow you in because they love and trust you.
Video transcript:
Personal space All people need personal space. Personal space is like an invisible bubble that surrounds you and makes you feel safe. If you are big you need space or if you are small you need space. Animals even need space too. If I am into some else?s space they are entitled to it might make them feel uncomfortable. When I get into people?s personal space I say ?I am sorry for getting into your personal space?. All of my friends, teachers and families I stay two stay two steps away when talking to them. If I stretch my arm, I can touch them with my finger and there is just enough space between us. Sometimes I get to mum and dad personal space when I want to give them a hug and a kiss, this because they are my family.
People need personal space at home, at school, at the stair and even on the playground. When I give people personal space we become good friends and when in some people space I feel safe and healthy.
